What is the 702 SW 8th St charge on my credit card?
Facts checked
Short answer
702 SW 8th St in Bentonville, Arkansas is Walmart. It's the address of Walmart's longtime headquarters, and online purchases post under it instead of a store name: Walmart.com and app orders, pickup and delivery, Walmart+ and delivery tips. If no Walmart account in your household has a matching order, treat it as fraud.
How it shows up on your statement
- 702 SW 8TH ST BENTONVILLE ARUS
- 702 S BENTONVILLE ARUS
- 702 SW 8TH ST BENTONVILLE ARUS EBTWM
- WALMART.COM BENTONVILLE AR
- WMT PLUS JAN 2024
Banks trim and reformat these, so yours may be shorter or carry a different city or number. Why charge names look strange.
Whose address is 702 SW 8th St?
Walmart's. 702 S.W. 8th Street, Bentonville, Arkansas 72716 is the address Walmart gave as its principal executive office in its annual SEC filings for years, through the report filed in March 2025. Walmart has since moved its official address to its new Home Office campus at 1 Customer Drive, but cardholders were still reporting the old address on Walmart charges in 2026.
The address appears because online sales aren't rung up at a store. Walmart.com orders, app orders, pickup and delivery, Walmart+ fees and tips are billed from headquarters, so the statement shows Bentonville instead of a store number. A Walmart shopper on Reddit summed it up: "all of my walmart.com transactions are listed as Bentonville." The ARUS at the end is Arkansas plus the US country code some banks add.
Why is 702 SW 8th St on my card statement?
Something was bought or paid for online at Walmart with your card. The amount can be confusing for reasons Walmart explains in its own help center.
- A pending hold for an online order. Walmart authorizes an estimate first, and the hold can be higher than the final total because of items sold by weight, substitutions, out-of-stock items or bag fees. Walmart says your bank can take up to 10 days after the order is complete to drop the hold.
- Two holds for one order, which Walmart says can happen if checkout ran long and you picked a new timeslot, or if you added items after ordering.
- A delivery tip posted on its own. You can add or change a tip after delivery, and up to 14 days later if you didn't tip at checkout, so a small charge can show up days after the groceries. One Reddit user's mystery $3.50 charge turned out to be exactly that.
- Walmart+. The membership starts with a 30-day free trial and renews automatically; Walmart's help center listed it at $12.95 a month or $98 a year plus tax.
- An online EBT or SNAP order, which can show EBTWM at the end of the line.
- Someone else's Walmart account with your card saved in it: a partner, a teenager, a roommate.
How to cancel a Walmart charge or get a refund
Start in the Walmart account that placed the order, not at a store. Several people on Reddit were told in store there was "no record" of a charge, because store staff generally can't look up online orders by card number.
- Open Purchase History on walmart.com or in the Walmart app and find the order. Cancellations and returns start there.
- To cancel Walmart+, go to your account, select Walmart+, then Manage membership, then Manage beside your plan, then Cancel membership, and confirm. You can also pause it for a month at a time.
- For a charge you don't recognize, Walmart says to use Chat with us and type "Unauthorized Charges". You can also call customer service at 1-800-925-6278 (1-800-WALMART).
- For a pending hold that won't go away, call your bank. Walmart says only the bank can release it.
Walmart's help center says it isn't able to offer refunds on Walmart+, so cancel before the renewal date rather than after.
What if you never bought anything from Walmart?
Online orders and late tips explain most of these. Rule them out first.
- Check whether the line is pending or posted. A pending amount from an edited or cancelled order may fall off on its own.
- Look through Purchase History in every Walmart account that could hold your card, including orders from a few days before the charge, since tips post late.
- Ask the household whether anyone saved your card in their own Walmart account or app, or used it for an online EBT order.
- Check for a Walmart+ free trial that turned into a paid membership.
If nothing matches, assume your card or Walmart account was misused. Change your Walmart password, delete saved cards from the account, report it in Walmart's chat, then call your card issuer; Walmart itself tells people to contact the bank to dispute. Replace the card too. People on Reddit report charges continuing from a hijacked Walmart account that still had their card saved.
Still don’t recognize it? Dispute it with your bank
- Open the transaction in your banking app. The detail view often shows a longer merchant name, a phone number or a city that the statement line cuts off.
- Ask the merchant for a refund first. It is usually faster than a dispute, and your card issuer may ask whether you tried.
- If the merchant says no, or you think your card number was stolen, call the number on the back of your card. Ask them to dispute the charge and, if it is fraud, to cancel the card and send a new one.
- For a credit card, follow up in writing. The FTC says your letter should reach the issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent to you, at the billing inquiries address rather than the payments address.
Federal law caps what you owe for unauthorized credit card charges at $50. Debit cards work differently: if only your card number was used, you owe nothing as long as you report it within 60 days after the statement is sent, but the money is gone from your account while the bank looks into it. See the FTC's guide to lost or stolen cards. A successful dispute becomes a chargeback against the merchant.
