What is the 1955 Broadway Oakland charge on my credit card?

Facts checked

Short answer

1955 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, California is the official address of Block, Inc., the company behind Cash App, Square and Afterpay. A charge showing it is almost always Cash App activity, such as money sent with a linked credit card (which carries a 3% fee), and sometimes an Afterpay installment. Check your Cash App and Afterpay activity for the same date.

How it shows up on your statement

  • BLOCK, INC. 1955 BROADWAY, SUITE 600 OAKLAND, CA 94612
  • 1955 BROADWAY, SUITE 600 OAKLAND, CA 94612

Banks trim and reformat these, so yours may be shorter or carry a different city or number. Why charge names look strange.

Whose address is 1955 Broadway Oakland?

Block, Inc.'s. Block is the payments company that owns Cash App, Square, Afterpay and TIDAL, and its annual report for 2025 gives 1955 Broadway, Suite 600, Oakland, CA 94612 as its principal executive office. Block says it has no formal headquarters and names this address because SEC rules require one. Cash App's own support page uses the same address for mail, and Afterpay's US terms list Suite 204 in the same building.

So the address isn't a store. When a statement or banking app shows it in place of a business name, the transaction almost always went through a Block product, most often Cash App. A Cash App user on Reddit who was charged $30 by "Block, Inc. 1955 Broadway, Suite 600 Oakland" got the answer in the first reply: Block is Cash App's parent company.

Block also owns Square, one of the most widely used card processors for small businesses. A purchase from a Square seller normally shows SQ* and the seller's own name, though, not this address.

Why is 1955 Broadway Oakland on my card statement?

Read the words around the address first. Cash App sometimes shows another company's name next to Block's address, and when it does, that company is the real merchant. One Reddit user's $121.40 debit read "CICA L I C O A WEB PAY" in front of the Oakland address.

  • Money sent through Cash App with a linked credit card. Cash App's send page says sending from your balance or a debit card is free, but it "charges a 3% fee to send money from a linked credit card." A $100 send shows up as $103.
  • Cash App collecting money it's owed, such as a Cash App Borrow repayment or a negative balance. The Reddit user charged $30 said Block had been trying to take it for a month.
  • An Afterpay installment, billed on a schedule after a buy now, pay later checkout.
  • Someone else's Cash App or Afterpay account with your card linked to it: a partner, a teenager, a roommate, an ex.

Whether your card issuer treats a Cash App send as a purchase or a cash advance is up to the issuer, so check your card's terms if the total looks bigger than the send.

How to get a refund or dispute a Cash App charge

Go through Cash App's official channels only. These are the ones it publishes:

  1. In the app, tap the profile icon, select Support, then Start a Chat. Or find the payment and tap Contact Support.
  2. Or call 1 (800) 969-1940, every day from 8am to 9:30pm Eastern. Cash App says this is the only phone number for Cash App Support.
  3. For a Cash App Card purchase, go to Support, then Cash App Card, then Dispute a purchase. Cash App asks you to dispute within 60 days of the statement the transaction appears on and promises an update within 10 business days, with a provisional credit if it needs longer. A full investigation can take up to 45 days.
  4. For an Afterpay installment, manage it in the Afterpay app or your Afterpay account.

Cash App says its staff will never ask for your password, PIN, full card number or sign-in code, or ask you to make a "test" transaction. Anyone who does is not Cash App. The 2026 multistate settlement with Block specifically mentioned users finding scammers posing as customer service.

If the charge is on your credit card, for example a send funded by it, you can also dispute it with your card issuer.

What if you don't use Cash App or Afterpay?

Work out which Block product it was before you dispute.

  • Read the full line for another company's name before or after the address. If one is there, contact that company.
  • If you have Cash App, open Activity and look for the same date and amount: a send, a Borrow repayment, a card purchase or a fee.
  • Check whether your card is linked to someone else's Cash App or Afterpay account. An amount exactly 3% over a round number, like $51.50 or $206, points to a credit card send.
  • Check Afterpay for an installment due that day.

If none of that fits, treat it as unauthorized: contact Cash App Support and call your card issuer. It helps to know the history if Cash App turns you down. In January 2025, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau ordered Block to pay up to $120 million to consumers plus a $55 million penalty, finding its fraud investigations "woefully incomplete" and ordering it to fully investigate unauthorized transactions. In July 2026, 46 states announced a $45 million settlement with Block over Cash App fraud protections; Block denied wrongdoing. If a genuine claim is denied, escalate to your card issuer, the CFPB or your state attorney general.

Still don’t recognize it? Dispute it with your bank

  1. Open the transaction in your banking app. The detail view often shows a longer merchant name, a phone number or a city that the statement line cuts off.
  2. Ask the merchant for a refund first. It is usually faster than a dispute, and your card issuer may ask whether you tried.
  3. If the merchant says no, or you think your card number was stolen, call the number on the back of your card. Ask them to dispute the charge and, if it is fraud, to cancel the card and send a new one.
  4. For a credit card, follow up in writing. The FTC says your letter should reach the issuer within 60 days after the first bill with the error was sent to you, at the billing inquiries address rather than the payments address.

Federal law caps what you owe for unauthorized credit card charges at $50. Debit cards work differently: if only your card number was used, you owe nothing as long as you report it within 60 days after the statement is sent, but the money is gone from your account while the bank looks into it. See the FTC's guide to lost or stolen cards. A successful dispute becomes a chargeback against the merchant.
