Long-running Colorado high-risk ISO that places domestic, international and offshore merchant accounts, with month-to-month terms for most merchants.
Durango Merchant Services is an independent sales organization in Durango, Colorado that has been placing hard-to-approve merchants for well over two decades. Exactly how long is oddly difficult to pin down: its own marketing says 1997, CardFellow's directory says 1999 and its LinkedIn profile says 2004. It is a broker, not a bank. Merchant Maverick reports that Durango works with more than a dozen banks and processors to place an account, and that spread of relationships is what the offshore product rests on. Alongside domestic US accounts it arranges international and offshore placements through acquirers in Canada, Panama, the United Kingdom and the European Union, with currency conversion and multi-currency settlement. Neither PaymentCloud nor Soar Payments offers anything comparable.
Nothing is published, and Merchant Maverick is blunt about the reason: Durango does not list rates, fees or contract terms because it sells to high-risk businesses whose pricing is assigned case by case after underwriting. Reviewers who have gathered quotes disagree on the band. GuidingDecisions reports discount rates of 1.95% to 4.95% plus $0.15 to $0.25 per transaction with monthly account fees of $10 to $60, while Wise's review puts the range higher at 2.5% to 5.5% plus $0.20 to $0.50. Treat both as indicative rather than as a quote. What is consistent across reviews is the contract, and it is the best in this category: no setup fee, a $10 monthly minimum, month-to-month terms with no early termination fee for most merchants, and rolling reserves used mainly on very high-risk startups rather than as a default. The exceptions are real. Merchant Maverick notes that some high-risk businesses are put on a three-year initial term with an early termination fee of up to $500, so the month-to-month default is a starting position, not a guarantee.
Durango sells a gateway under its own name, which Merchant Maverick describes as a proprietary product, offering recurring billing, a secure customer vault, address verification, QuickBooks integration and roughly 150 cart plugins. The module names are the same set NMI licenses to resellers as a white label, so read "proprietary" as branding rather than engineering. eChecks are supported and a cryptocurrency merchant account is available. But Merchant Maverick is explicit that eChecks are not the same thing as ACH and that Durango does not offer ACH, which matters if the plan was to run bank debits for recurring billing.
Merchants who have already been declined, and in particular merchants who need an acquirer outside the United States or settlement in more than one currency. Merchant Maverick scores Durango 4.8 out of 5 and reports an A+ BBB rating with zero complaints filed in the last three years, which is rare in this trade. The main operational catch is availability. Phone support runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5pm Mountain time, with no weekend or overnight cover, which is an awkward fit for the European and offshore merchants the international product is built to serve.
