Subscription billing and revenue management platform that sits on top of 40+ payment gateways, from a free pay-as-you-go tier.
Chargebee was founded in 2011 in Chennai and is now a remote-first company of over 1,000 people headquartered in San Francisco, serving more than 6,500 businesses in 227 countries and territories. It is important to understand what it is not: Chargebee never touches the money. It is a subscription billing and revenue management layer that connects to more than 40 payment gateways across 150+ countries, including Stripe, Adyen, Braintree, Checkout.com, BlueSnap, GoCardless, Mollie and Razorpay, and drives them with plans, trials, coupons, proration, dunning and invoicing logic.
As of 2026 Chargebee prices its billing platform on usage. The pay-as-you-go plan has no platform fee and charges 0.80% of monthly billing value; a committed plan costs 99 dollars a month plus 0.65% of billing; and Enterprise Plus is custom-priced on an annual commitment. Historically the Starter tier was free until 250,000 dollars of cumulative billing with a 0.75% overage, and the 599 dollar Performance tier included 100,000 dollars of monthly billing, a structure still referenced in older reviews. Revenue recognition, CPQ and the retention product are all priced separately. Because Chargebee holds no funds, payout timing and underwriting are entirely the connected gateway's business, and its percentage stacks on top of whatever that gateway charges.
Chargebee suits SaaS, subscription and usage-billed businesses that have outgrown a gateway's native billing but do not want to build their own: it layers dunning that recovers failed renewals, finance-grade integrations with NetSuite, Xero, QuickBooks and Salesforce, and multi-gateway routing across 100+ currencies. It makes no sense for businesses without recurring revenue, and merchants still need their own gateway account and merchant agreement, since Chargebee solves billing, not acceptance.
