European payment service provider with published per-transaction pricing, deep local method coverage and no monthly fee for online payments.
Mollie is a European payment service provider founded in Amsterdam in 2004. It is a regulated European payment institution rather than a reseller, so it handles acquiring, settlement and payouts itself. The company employs roughly 1,100 people and only accepts merchants registered in the European Economic Area, Switzerland or the United Kingdom. Its product line covers hosted checkout, an API with drop-in components, payment links, invoicing, subscriptions, marketplace split payments through Mollie Connect, and in-person payments via card terminals or Tap to Pay on iPhone.
Mollie publishes a full per-method rate card and charges no setup fee, no monthly platform fee and no minimum turnover on the online product. Visa and Mastercard consumer cards issued in the EEA cost 1.8% + EUR 0.25. EEA commercial cards and American Express cost 2.9% + EUR 0.25, and cards issued outside the EEA cost 3.25% + EUR 0.25. UK merchants get a separate table that starts at 1.2% + GBP 0.20 for UK domestic consumer cards. Local methods are priced individually: iDEAL is EUR 0.32, SEPA Direct Debit is EUR 0.35, Bancontact is 1.4% + EUR 0.25 and Klarna runs from 2.99% + EUR 0.35 up to 4.99% depending on the market. In-person payments are sold either pay-as-you-go with no monthly fee or on a Pro plan at EUR 20 per month with lower percentage rates and one terminal licence included. A lost dispute costs EUR 25, a SEPA Direct Debit chargeback costs EUR 10, five payouts a month are free and each extra payout costs EUR 0.25. Merchants processing roughly EUR 50,000 a month or more can negotiate volume pricing or an Interchange++ model.
Mollie suits European online sellers who want one contract covering cards plus the local methods that actually convert in each market, and who value fast self-serve onboarding over a long enterprise sales cycle. Platforms and marketplaces are well served by Mollie Connect, and small merchants benefit from the absence of fixed costs. It is the wrong fit for anyone outside Europe, for high-risk verticals, and for very large merchants who would do better on a straight interchange-plus contract from the start.
